A truly dynamic speaking voice has the ability to mesmerize the listener. Its warmth, its depth, and its richness captivate you. Voices like that of George Clooney, Cher, James Earl Jones, Kathleen Turner, Sean Connery, or Julia Ormond make us want to listen to them.
Do you think your listeners are captivated by the sound of your speaking voice? Bear in mind, I am not talking about the voice you hear in head – which is the way you think you sound. I am talking about the voice you hear on your voicemail – which is the way everyone else knows you sound.
►Understanding and accepting that fact is your first step towards improving your vocal image.
Place yourself in any one of these situations.
1. You enter a room and immediately gain the attention of the group just by the sound of your speaking voice.
2. You and your colleagues are sitting at the boardroom table and when you open your mouth to speak, everyone turns in your direction just waiting to hear what you have to say.
3. You are standing at the lectern giving a presentation and your audience is captivated not only by what you say but how you say it.
4. You open your mouth to speak and you sound better than your boss!
Chances are good that you do not find people enamored by you because of how you sound. You may look fabulous; you may have the best job of all your friends; you may be a dynamic public speaker; or you may have a great sales presentation, but how likely is it that your speaking voice mesmerizes or captivates your listeners?
►Discovering your ‘real’ voice is your second step towards improving the sound of your vocal image.
You have a better voice inside which is what I refer to as your ‘real’ voice. It is deeper in pitch, fuller in depth, and resonant. It does not sound too old nor does it sound too young. It is ageless. It is not too loud nor is it too soft. It has the ability to be projected without shouting. And, it expresses color, emotion, life, and animation when you speak
There are so many wonderful voices in the world, most of which will never be heard because most people do not know that they possess such an instrument. Your voice could be one of those great sounds.
If you want to see a tremendous ‘before’ and ‘after’ video clip, I invite to go to my website and click on Craig in the upper left box. His change is outstanding. Did he know he had a voice like that? No. None of us did. We were all surprised with his change.
Good voice training means you will sound better, you will probably look better, and you most definitely will feel better about yourself. And, and added bonus is that you are going to like hearing yourself on your answering machine!
